Viva Voce are Anita and Kevin Robinson, a dynamic husband and wife duo from Portland, Oregon. With a truly tight-knit sound indicative of the relationship behind the music, Viva Voce’s latest album is a well-balanced combination of pensive and smoothly flowing ballads and lively independent rock.

Get Yr Blood Sucked Out flows seamlessly from one song to the next. Sometimes the mood is perky, other times it is chaotic or downtrodden. Whatever the feeling may be, the music remains thoughtful and engaging. “So Many Miles” is eight minutes of fierce drumming and fuzzy, rip-roaring guitar noise, and is the album’s signature psychedelic influenced song. “Never Be Like Yesterday” is an introspective and original ballad. The hook is catchy and keeps the listener interested, and the lyrics look hopefully toward the future.

Viva Voce’s journey began in the late 90s as the couple started dating and sharing music together. As their projects progressed into albums and their love became a life-long partnership, the couple left Alabama for Portland—a place where their pensive indie sound fit in perfectly.

This third formal release is evidence of Viva Voce’s musical maturity. The layered and full-bodied feel to their music creates a sound that is much more complex than most two-piece ensembles today.
