Monday Myspace Roundup

Sometimes I like to pretend that we have weekly features like Friday Recap, or Tuesday Taco Night, or Monday Myspace Roundup.  It makes me feel like I’m a real blogger with countless hours at my disposal.  Other times I pretend that I actually run a website that people care about and visit.  It is during these moments that I feel validated and strong, like I have finally done something with my life.

Anyway, although I am pretty sick with a head cold, I am well aware that Monday Myspace Roundup will probably never be a weekly feature on this website, but I don’t care.  I take things day to day and try not to devote too much of myself to writing a meaningful blog.  Only squares write more than one post per week.

*CLICHE PHRASE #1*  If you haven’t heard of Mewithoutyou than you might as well be living under a rock.  *CLICHE PHRASE #2* Their new album, Brother, Sister, is the most mature album of their careers.  *CLICHE PHRASE #3*  I know that sounds cliche, but it’s 100% true.

Ok, enough of that.  Although it isn’t as crazy and passionate as their last two records, the new Mewithoutyou album is actually pretty darn good.  The tracks are more layered and the drumming gives it this cool tribal vibe.  There are also horns on a few of the songs (see ‘C Minor’ at the link below).  All in all, pretty hard to imagine this came out on Tooth and Nail.

Michael Scott huddled in a corner, drenched in both black light and the flash of a strobe light, listening to a techno song about Girls Gone Wild.  Possibly one of the funniest moments in the 2 year history of the american Office.  If you tuned in last Thursday and were wondering what the name of that amazing song playing in the background was, it is called ‘Girls Gone Wild’ by Captain Ahab.  Listen to it on repeat forever at the link below.

WARNING:  Some of the other songs are pretty hardcore X-rated, although I’m sure some of you are down with that.

So this chick I know has a brother and he makes music and- crap, that is a terrible way to introduce a musician.  Let me start over.  I was travelling across country in a beat up van when I stopped to pump gas in Michigan.  I knew the rain was on it’s way because of the grey skies and humidity.  When I looked up from the gas pump I saw a young man with 20+ years of weight and worry on his shoulders.  He slumped forward and played a song for me on a guitar.  It was called ‘I’m a Bird’ and it shook me to my core.  It was unlike anything I had ever heard and at that very moment I knew I had to find an internet connection and blog about him.  Too bad I never got his name and shortly after he was done playing the song he dissapeared into the bayou.  It was only later that I would learn the stranger’s name was actually Jake Newton.  I discovered this when this chick I knew told me her brother made music and sent me his Myspace link.

P.S:  I have no idea why anyone would want to add us on Myspace, but here is our link just in case.
