The Militia Group
If any of you have come across the band Watashi Wa in your furious search for music and found something appealing in the lovelorn lyrics, squeaky clean harmonies and laidback rhythms please do find this EP at all costs. The rest of us who are tiring of the shiny facade with no substance underneath that is marking so much of the music that falls under the virtually useless moniker of “alternative” should avoid this record like a case of the bird flu.
If anyone doesn’t know what kind of music this group trucks in, perhaps painting a little picture in your mind’s eye might help. Imagine an episode-ending montage on “Dawson’s Creek” or “The OC” as the young, beautiful people on the show look wistfully off into the distance or open a car door in slow motion as they get ready to take off into the sunset. The lighting is perfect, the make up is impeccable, and no one has a tan line or a blemish. Roll credits and fade to black.
These five songs are so lightweight, I fear that they might drift right into the air. Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing as they might burn up in the upper stratosphere and become nothing more harmful than dust. I hate to be so harsh about an EP like this, but it is music like this that is making the world a more mediocre place to live in and, frankly, I’m tiring of it.

One Response to “Lakes - Photographs”
Reading this I thought, “Man, It can’t really be that bad.”
Sometimes I’m wrong. Pretty straight review.
