Starbucks presents Beck, Pela, and Dark Side of the Cop
CATEGORY: MP3
All good things must come to an end; even free internet. Seems whoever owned the network I was leeching off of caught wind and put up some encryption (weak). And the cable guy isn’t coming until Tuesday (double weak). Anyway, that means the next few posts will be brought to you via a Starbucks T-Mobile hot spot connection. Yeah, I know that might upset some of my hippie readers. I promise this is only temporary, guys.

Dark Side of the Cop - Shaky Little Rules
Are you looking for something upbeat & funky? Do you like samples and drum kits and electronic beeps? Say hi to Dark Side of the Cop. Originally conceived as an alternate soundtrack to the film Beverly Hills Cop, Marco Panella’s experiment has transformed into a pretty legit project since then. He has a full backing band now and a self titled album out on Auger Down Records. I’m really digging the track ‘Shaky Little Rules’. Add it to your next iPod playlist.

Pela - Lost to the Lonesome
Pela - The Trouble With River Cities
Pela - Episodes
In our last Weekly Recap I posted a link to Music for Robots and Brassland Record’s electronic EP. One of the Brassland artists featured in the deal and one that has captured my attention the past few days is Pela. Here are two songs off of the most recent Brassland label sampler- ‘Lost to the Lonesome’ and ‘The Trouble with River Cities’ is from their up coming untitled full length and ‘Episodes’ is from their All in Time EP. If you are a fan of The National or Brassland in general, you’ll dig these.

This Beck track is from an Alexander “Skip” Spence tribute album released on Birdman Records. The mood of the cover is similar to Beck’s upbeat, airy Mutations record- my personal favorite next to his Sea Change album. Peep your ear to it.
