Band of Horses - Everything All the Time

Band of Horses

While we work on getting a mid-year album feature done I thought I’d go ahead and write up a quick post on SubPop’s break out artist Band of Horses.  Formed out of the break up of respected Seattle band Carissa’s Wierd, Band of Horses has swept the indie review circuit away with it’s lush, country/folk/indie rock blend.   Their debut record, Everything All the Time, has already been called one of 2006’s best records, and after listening to the record for the past few months, it’s hard to disagree.  The sonic scope of the album is, in a word, impressive.  Definitely two big thumbs up from Invisible Limb and it’s staff members.

For those who have yet to discover the critically acclaimed Everything All the Time, I’ve included links to two album tracks, The Great Salt Lake and The Funeral.  As a bonus I’ve also included links to some demo tracks (the biggest difference is the demo version of Wicked Wil), so even if you’ve already picked up the album you can still check those out.  Also don’t forget to catch the band when they play the Letterman show on Thursday, July 13th.

From Everything All the Time (2006):
MP3: The Great Salt Lake
MP3: The Funeral

Demos:
MP3: The Funeral (demo)
MP3: Our Swords (demo)
MP3: I Lost My Dingle on the Red Line (demo)
MP3: Wicked Gil (demo)

When i listen to the song great salt lake a picture comes to my mind of a person in his mid-twenties having a quarter life crisis.. not knowing if the next day will be better than the last, his optimism has faded away, everywhere he looks is a dead end, but then reaches a point in his life where he realizes that all his worries have only been created by himself. This is when he imagines himself on the great salt lake and has a re-awakening to the feeling of what it feels like to be alive… Its a great song
