Grogshow were Marc Kisting and Jason Williams—a mid-nineties alternative rock duo who took their music-making seriously. In fact, they were so intent on becoming successful contributors to the industry that they made the voyage from their native Iowa to Portland, where music was thriving. Just as Grogshow’s songs were beginning to come together, Kisting, at the tender age of 26, was defeated in a short-lived battle with leukemia. Until now, the world has never heard the fruits of Grogshow’s labor.

Over a decade later, the songs Grogshow recorded in Portland have been remixed and re-mastered by Jason Williams along with Matt Trimble, and Patrick Stolley—the engineers Kisting and Williams originally worked with. Now a new release on the Future Appletree label, all proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Grogshow’s music is a combination of the lackadaisical and wavering vocals that were so characteristic of the mid-nineties grunge period, sapid melodic alt-guitar, and edgy drum rhythms. Each of the eight tracks on the album are well thought out, and executed the most appropriate degree of complexity and perfection.

Sounds like a sad story behind the music. The kind of thing that would make a bad movie! None-the-less, it sounds great! If these artists were just that intent on succeeding, their work must be good!
