Whether you have heard Band of Horses or not, you know what they sound like. When I first began listening to this album, I thought I was listening to the Flaming Lips. After some time passed, I decided that maybe it wasn’t the Flaming Lips in the CD player, but The Shins instead. At album’s end the consensus was that Band of Horses is a coalescence of the Flaming Lips, The Shins, and Death Cab for Cutie. To hear Ben Bridwell’s wavering falsetto a la Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, listen to “St. Augustine.” For samplings of Ben Bridwell taking on the roll of The Shins’ lead singer, James Mercer, check out “The Great Salt Lake.”

The fact that you may not know what band you are listening to when one of their tracks pops up on your playlist does not discount Band of Horses’ talent. Everything All The Time is indeed a pleasure to listen to. Every song is tastefully written and the subtle variance in orchestration throughout the album keeps the endeavor interesting for the listener.

Everything All The Time is delicately pensive. The album opens with an expansive melancholy that toes the line between defeat and hope. It then winds down a path of ups and downs before ending up right back where it began. Band of Horses may not have a zest for originality, but their new album is definitely a pleasure to listen to.

Band of horses is an exquisite listen, bound to appeal to many a listener. Personally, it’s a tune I haven’t heard before, but I know I’ve heard somewhere… The music is very well done, and the singing accompanies it like bread and butter [or at least mustard and cracker?] However you look at it, you can’t deny that there is effort and care put into their work.
I’m really enjoying listening to this album (Everything All the Time), it seems to fit many a mood I experience, yet somehow seems best fit for autumn. That’s probably because of the crisp sound they offer, just like the fall air. This is certainly a band that is bound to be welcomed into CD towers and racks across the nation.
