MLB Trade Deadline Posted on August 1st, 2006 by Rich Belize

Like every year the 2006 major league baseball trade deadline came with a tornado of swirling rumors and left with a yawn. Outside Abreu to the Yanks, none of the discussed superstar names were dealt at the deadline. It was just the usual litter of smaller impact players whose names wouldn’t excite much interest outside a Mets or Rangers AOL chat room. I’ll admit though, it was fun to watch as the whole Lidge/Oswalt/Zito/Soriano drama played up by ESPN analysts for the past week was erased in one fell swoop by the announcement that the trading deadline had finally ended at 4pm EST with the Dodgers’ acquisition of short stop Julio Lugo. Talk about a climax. My team the Cincinnati Reds only managed to snatch up two relievers, Rheal Cormier and Kyle Lohse, and they were still one of the more active teams in the league. I’m just thankful they didn’t trade away any prospects for a disheveled and ancient Greg Maddux.

In the end whether your team is in the playoff hunt or hunting for October vacation deals on Priceline.com, we can all agree that the trade deadline was pretty lackluster this year. To help remedy those blues, here is some baseball themed music.
The Intruders – (Love is Like) A Baseball Game
The Ataris – Boys of Summer
John Fogerty – Centerfield
Before I go, remember, just because your GM didn’t land Miguel Tejada doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you.

I don’t know anything about baseball, nor do I care to, but that Don Henley cover is killer. I’ve always liked their(Eagles)/his lyrics.
