mp3playerdude.jpg

Attention world!  You are looking at a brand new Invisible Limb!  That’s right.  I spent the last few days trying to pretty up the site, and this is what I came up with.  What do you guys think?  In my opinion it’s much better than the old one.  Anyway, feel free to let us know what you think or if you spot any bugs/errors while browsing the site.

As for our mp3 player, I’ve added 9 new songs from bands like Grizzly Bear,  CSS, John Vanderslice & more so check it out.  You can launch the player by clicking on the pink button at the top right of the page that says “Launch MP3 Player”.  Enjoy!

Though chameleon-like in their musicians and monikers, bandleader Christian Burnout (formerly Chris Bernat) and Chrash (formerly The Fresh Prints and Prints of Wales among others) are steadfast in their musical continuity. Continue Reading »

The melancholic, timid, and dark Struggle In The Hive is a collaborative effort between Illinois musicians B. Patric and Nigel Jeffrey. Loosely joined, the two song-writers have assembled an album’s worth of new tunes for emo/down-tempo indie rock lovers to feast upon. Continue Reading »

Track a Tiger – Woke Up Early the Day I Died Posted on June 22nd, 2006 by Andrew Allingham

Woke Up Early the Day I Died
Future Appletree Records

The first time I sat down to listen to Track a Tiger’s first release, Woke up Early the Day I Died, I was behind the steering wheel of a car driving to some predetermined destination. The music started and my head began to bob along to the sounds. I had read a few excerpts about the band, and there seemed to be a growing theme of adjectives proclaiming them to be “moody” and “sad”. At first I agreed, but as my drive went on, my mood seemed to fit the opposite. The songs were mostly somber, but behind that initial reaction, a smile found its way upon my face. It was a strange feeling, probably like the situation that the album title would imply. Maybe it is better to go out with optimism rather than worry? Continue Reading »

These Arms Are Snakes – Horse Girl Posted on June 22nd, 2006 by Rich Belize

These Arms Are Snakes

The following press release was in my inbox this morning.  After reading it I decided that it was way too intense not to post.

Taken from the June 22nd Jade Tree Records press release:
“THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES’ second full length for Jade Tree [due October 10th, 2006] finds the Seattle foursome towing a proverbial line between paradox, hostility and a caustic blend of post-hard/math core. Retaining the definitive tension and angular force of earlier THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES efforts, Easter is the year-long culmination of a more structured yet experimental song writing process for the band. Recorded at Red Room Recording in Seattle by TAAS drummer Chris Common, Easter explores the relationship between suspect animism, impending otherwordly doom and the ethereal battle between virtue and ruin. More than anything from THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES’ back catalog, Easter was meant to hurt you.”

Listen to their song ‘Horse Girl’ and feel the threat!

Harvey Danger – Little by Little Posted on June 21st, 2006 by Reid

Harvey Danger - Little by LittleHarvey Danger
Little by Little
Kill Rock Stars

Although I didn’t know it at the time, Harvey Danger was probably the first indie band I ever listened to. I would ride around town on my 21 speed mountain bike drinking orange soda and enjoying their now classic Where Have All The Merry Makers Gone? on my cassette Walkman. Now, fast forwarding to modern times, I’m driving around town in my beat up pick up truck drinking orange soda and listening to the same album on my iPod; you might say some things never change. Sure I’m an older man with more refined tastes, but it seems the boys in Harvey Danger have too undergone some refining while they were away. Continue Reading »

Harvey Danger – Little by Little Posted on June 17th, 2006 by Rich Belize

Harvey Danger
Above photo taken by Ryan Schierling.

Band gets together. Band writes songs. Band plays shows. Band gets signed to a modest contract on an independent label and releases first album. Band starts to get attention. Band gets their debut re-released on a major label. Band hits it big with the ‘Paranoia! Paranoia!’ song. Band then releases unsuccessful follow up. Label is unhappy and band gets dropped. 5 years later band releases their third album Little by Little for free on the internet.

Thus is the life story of Seattle rock band Harvey Danger. A rags to riches to wisdom sort of tale, much like the story of fellow one hit wonders Nada Surf. Not only have the two bands often been compared to each other, but they share the distinction of surviving their falls from the public eye. As most people know Nada Surf went on to release two solid indie records on Barsuk Records (three, if you want to count the enjoyable yet transitional Proximity Effect album) and now it appears Harvey Danger are ready to get back on their own two feet and continue life as a band.

Harvey Danger - Little by LittleThis time around Harvey Danger have decided to offer their latest self released record, Little by Little, up for download…for free. That’s right. The album is compressed in a zip file, complete with album artwork and notes, and up on their website for anyone who wants it. Of course they give you the option of paying for it or offering a contribution, for those of us who feel the urge to thank the band for their music. If you remember their hit single, Flagpole Sitta, or just like to download free music, check it out. Kill Rock Stars records will be officially releasing the record on July 25th, along with a bonus 9 song EP.

CSS – Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death from Above Posted on June 15th, 2006 by Rich Belize

CSS

In case you were wondering, yes, Brazilian natives CSS are referring to that Death From Above. It seems that along with American cinema, HTML extensions, and pop culture, the funky bass and drums duo Death from Above 1979 have made quite the impression on SubPop’s newest dance/party/punk band. The Portuguese-speaking-English-singing CSS have even named their debut album, Cansai de Ser Sexy, after a Beyonce Knowles reference (Cansei de Ser Sexy when translated to English is Tired of Being Sexy). If there is anything to gather from this it’s that apparently Brazil watches more MTV than we do.

At any rate, sprinkling your debut album with references to other popular and not so popular bands is probably not the safest thing to do. If your song isn’t slamming, off the hook, fantastic, it might come off as cheesy or lame; not that I’m not going to try to make that distinction for you (although I will say that this particular single is not much to my taste).  The main purpose of this post is to educate you, the public, about a new band from one of indie rock’s most popular labels. Take a listen for yourself and decide whether it’s wildly dance-tastic or simply derivative.  :-)

Say Hi to Your Mom – These Fangs Posted on June 14th, 2006 by Andrew Allingham

 Say Hi to Your Mom

It’s only been about a year since Say Hi to Your Mom’s last release, Ferocious Mopes, but that seems to be a long enough time to write and record another album. Impeccable Blahs, the NEW-new Say Hi to Your Mom record, will be released this July in conjunction with an extensive tour around North America. This time around Eric Elbogen is joined by a few other band members, so I guess that takes care of whether to call the band “they” or “he”; no longer any confusion there.

Insound.com has made a track from Impeccable Blahs available for download entitled “These Fangs”, which I am now passing on to you. The song confirms Eric’s promise of an album about vampires, which continues the theme of “Poor Pete Is A Bit Self Conscious” off of Ferocious Mopes. It’s a catchy little song, so download and enjoy. You won’t have long to wait until the new record actually hits stores.
