Jets Overhead - BridgesJets Overhead
Bridges

Microgroove

We have reached the middle of the road. Jets Overhead maintains a steady, not-too-fast, not-too-slow tempo throughout their LP, and while they are quite good, a little more vigor wouldn’t hurt.

Continuity is a good thing, but listeners crave surprise—a slow song, something upbeat—or is the surprise that the tempo on Bridges hardly wavers?

Though not claimed to be one of their influences, Jets Overhead lead singer Adam Kittredge’s vocals are eerily reminiscent of Brian Wilson during his days with the Beach Boys. Both possess a similar timbre and the ability to slip effortlessly into falsetto. No need to cringe at the thought of listening to an album full of artificially high voicing—Kittredge tastefully peppers the LP with just the right amount falsetto and is often juxtaposed by backing vocals from Jocelyn Greenwood and Antonia Freybe.

Production-wise, Jets Overhead has a good thing going. “Life’s A Song” is catchy and complete with the perfect amount of keyboards, vocal variation, and an unexpected diminished chord between verses. Bridges is well-written and tastefully executed throughout. “All The People” is a song that resides at the slow end of the short tempo spectrum and serves as a display for Kittredge’s luminous vocals.

Jets Overhead has the potential to enjoy a bright future, but success does not come without taking risks.
