New Estate is your average lo-fi indie rock band. Considering… is your average indie rock album. It isn’t bad by any means however. It’s the sort of album I would listen to while folding my laundry. The songs are non intrusive, but fun. Songs like Open and Learning Zone have a feel of Yo La Tengo to them, while Collage and Don’t Like the Way have the feel of a band like Pavement.
After sometime, it starts to become apparent that New Estate is a pretty good band writing pretty good music; the only real problem is that they aren’t doing much of anything we all haven’t heard before from plenty of other bands. The songs sit in a limbo of average indie rock with a few stand out tracks to help keep it afloat. Otherwise, the songs simply blend into each other. A soup of rock if you will. It doesn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth, but it still needs something more to make it worth your while.

But doesn’t that describe many of even the most popular bands today? Nickelback and Limp Bizkit have the same effect! They sort of lull around sounding like nothing too special, and occasionally offer a tune that really hits home. Puddle of Mud in particular is really just a generic rock band that somehow found it’s way into a few heart felt songs, a couple of music videos, and loads of money as a consequence.
Though, I see what you’re talking about. If New Estate wants to go onto the big scene, it’ll be standing still for a while, waiting for the winds of inspiration to give it a nice shove into a bank of originality.

It’s funny that you used 3 of the worst bands in mainsteram music today to prove a point about bands sounding the same.

Despite using bands that Indie rockers don’t appreciate, I think it gets my point across perfectly. Even if they are the worst bands in the mainstream, that proves my point even more: New Estate will remain in this ‘limbo’ until something changes.
