Laid back vibes permeate throughout So L’il’s latest album, Dear Kathy. The record, which sits somewhere between a long EP and short full length, is an accessible amalgam of atmosphere and mood.
Opening track Enamel Animal starts off with a muffled pulse before breaking into layers of distorted guitars and keys, while Caribbean Dreams is the perfect soundtrack to a lazy afternoon. The band keeps things flowing on a steady pace until track five Inside when they decide to turn up the volume a bit. The song’s blaring electronic beat marks the most daring and adventurous moment on a mostly mellow release.
On first listen Dear Kathy isn’t much of an attention grabber but it turns out that the album’s biggest strength is it’s ability to flow below the radar of one’s consciousness. Dear Kathy is great background music that entertains without distracting. It definitely warrants a recommendation.

So L’il proved welcoming beat accompanied by a tune that doesn’t overwhelm. Sounds sort of like 100th window, but carries a tune that remind me of OKGO. It’s definitely good for a lazy day, or for puncturing the silence of a party, welcoming conversation. Rich Feliciano hit it right on the button; it entertains, occupies, and won’t dare shut you out of whatever else is going on.
